The AMSA
The American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA) is the national trade association for the professional moving industry. Its headquarters is located in Washington, D.C. and its mission is to represent the domestic and international moving industry as well as to assist the customers that it caters to.
They have more than 3,200 members that include interstate, local and international movers as well as storage companies, plus various industry suppliers and state association members.
What is ProMover
As the leading certifier of professional movers in the US, AMSA wanted to promote knowledge of the industry to the mass public. They did this by introducing the ProMover brand.
ProMover is a certification program that was launched in January of 2009. The initiative was created to protect the interests of consumers, as well as to celebrate the excellence of credible companies in the industry. ProMover was also designed to fight impostors, rogue operators and con artists. ProMover offers the public information and assistance about everything that’s related to moving- from finding the right company to getting accurate estimates, packing items to understanding insurance.
To take the program one notch further, they’ve also instituted the ProMover logo. The logo, which is basically a stylized letter “M” is awarded only to those that uphold the quality standards of the AMSA. It provides consumers with an easily recognizable symbol of confidence- an assurance that their valuables will be well taken care of before, during and after transport.

For Moving Companies
If you are just starting out should strive to become a member of the AMSA and to attain the ProMover certification. The seal gives customers valid reason to trust you and your services therefore increasing your chances of closing more deals. Doing so will also make you aware of the industry’s best practices and inspire you to improve your service.
